Why don't beauty bloggers mention perfume?

I am giving away a hardcopy edition of Chandler Burr's The Perfect Scent. Details on that at the end of the post. It's a lovely read that gives you an inside peek of the French perfume industry from concept to creation and then switches coasts to NYC and a ride through celebrity fragrance and gives you an idea of just how involved stars are in their signature scents. I enjoyed it quite a bit (who wouldn't want a backseat trip through Grasse and Hermes Parisian offices and a quick run through Sarah Jessica Parker's New York haunts?)...and if you're interested, you can get it for free, from me!

Just leave a comment and I'll pick the winner randomly on Sunday! (I wrote this long lovely post on perfume but when I edited the HTML it deleted it. GRR! So I will write more later when I get back home...in the meantime, I wanted to give more time to enter- thanks!)

Oooo, oooo, pick me, pick me. (as the strange lady in the back jumps up and down.) Miss you, sorry that I didn't call you back. I just had a rough night and well, sleep most of the day away. Then later that evening I yank my toe nail out enough to bleed all over. I tripped over a stupid computer cord.

Ok, a comment on the blog. Hey all of us goddesses love to smell good. Even to make our mates go mad. (Some men even are aroused by female sweat....yuck!) So even I love to smell wonderful.

I would so love to read this book and enter the give away. I'm really into perfume and also blog about it sometimes ^^ (although it's mostly not commercial ones)

I don't mention perfumes except for perfume oils like BPAL because I'm allergic....which means I can't review them. When I get BPAL I list it, but I can't use anything except oil based, mostly EO perfumes.

Sweet! Reading this book would be awesome. I remember when I was little being so excited because one of our National Geographic mags had a whole story on perfume. It even had a scratch and sniff of what Napoleon's and Cleopatra's perfumes may have smelled like.

Cool, this sounds awesome! I refuse to buy celebrity perfumes just because I assume they're cheap, but the new Katy Perry perfume bottle is SO pretty! I like trying a lot of indie scents, but my favorite is Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche- I can't afford it at $90 a bottle :(

Cool! =D I'm super excited for this! I used to have big problems with perfumes but I'm good with the essential-oil based ones. =D

If you like scents, you should try ohwto.com if you haven't yet.... she's on Etsy and her smells are just amazing, in addition to awesome body products. My fav so far is "Sweet Honey Rose"--it's a rose scent without being straight rose. It's soft and light.

I don't post about perfume because...I don't wear it. I use some essential oils in diffusers around my house, and I regularly burn scented candles. But I have never caught the perfume-bug. (Mostly because I prefer lightly spicy or woodsy scents, and so much perfume made for / marketed toward women is so floral.)

I have a food blog, so I guess it'd be a little odd for me to post about perfume... ohh but as I say that I think maybe I should write about food-based scents (eg. chocolate, vanilla, licorice). Good idea, me! :) Thanks for this giveaway, I'd love to read about how perfumes are developed.

I would be happy to read this book. Actually I don't wear perfume now, I still haven't found a scent that I feel I will like to wear.

Sounds like a really interesting read. I've never really thought about the processes involved in creating it.

Anon- you can't win, you're my family, nerd! :)

Hi Teipu! Thank you for entering! This book was so cool to read and it made me want to really think about perfume differently. Thanks again!

Hi Thia, how are you!? I miss the Aromaleigh forums and how everyone seemed so close knit :( I haven't tried BPAl but have heard of them. Any recommendations?! I'm terrified it'll be yet another company I'll sell my soul too LOL! I'm such a product junkie.

Hi Kitten! FOR REAL?! That Nat'l Geo would've been amazing! I do love perfume and I like getting the little bottles in all different scents and having them on a pretty tray on my dresser. I never use them up, but I like the variety. Does that make me a hoarder lol?! Right now, my fave is CK Euphoria, but I love Katy Perry's new Purr...it's so high school fab. Thank you for entering!!

Hi Heather! I love her new perfume (Katy) too! A cat is so cute and well, Katy is just every girl's dream best friend. I love, love, love how decadent Chanel's perfumes are. It's funny in this book, the perfume industry calls Chanel Le Monstre (the monster, if I spelling the French right) because it's the beast to beat, sales wise. Could you find a few tester vials on Ebay? Then you could love it but not go broke. I do that with some Hermes scents I love.

Isis, hello! I still love that photo of yours. My family and I are doing themed Christmas photos this year and since we're all into France and such right now, we're doing a Versailles portrait. My big hunky husband in silk breeches, YES! I wish I could have a custom dress made....but it'll be a theatre rental in reality. I need to learn to sew. I haven't tried BPAL but it gets so many raves, I know I should. Thank you for entering!

Hi Corby! OHWTO is a co. I've also read a ton about, so thank you for recommending it and the fragrance, I'll check it out! Thanks for entering and I have a few perfumes, but I'm still on the hunt for something rich and sexy and deep...like patchouli and amber...I want to smell like a gyspy queen :)

Hi LiAnn! I agree that a lot of women's perfumes are sickly sweet- um, Mariah?! GROSS unless you're 9 years old. I do love a rich, ladylike scent and woodsy ones are great. I wear men's cologne sometimes and according to this book, only recently have scents been 'genderized'. I say find something you love and rock it. One I adored was a unisex perfume called Eau du Vie in Chocolate Cappucino. It was heaven.

Hi Kate! Congrats, lovie, you won!!! I hope you like the book!

Hi Leira- thank you for entering! What scents are you drawn to? For me, I went to the Body Shop and kinda mulled around the oils and decided to add whatever I liked to a blank lotion base or shower gel. Then I realized that it was funky, but I loved it. You can build your own.

Hey Dark Heart :) It's a crazy process that costs millions and before this book, I had no clue. It's an intoxicating read and it made me want to buy the two fragrances it focused on: Hermes The Garden of the Nile and Sarah Jessica Parker's Lovely. I might get the tester vials on Ebay. Thank you for entering!

What a lovely idea! I'm sure it will be awesome photos! It can be a bit daunting to start with BPAL as they have so many scents, so I recommend the samples. You can search for a particular scent you know you like, rose for example, and get all the perfumes that contains it. It can be a bit addictive though...
